Good Canon Telephoto For Under $300?

I’m looking at:
canon 55-250mm is
canon 75-300mm III USM
I already have a 50mm 1.8 (which i love) but i need a tele to shoot some live shots for friends bands, friends weddings, and just general shooting. My friend has the 75-300mm and loves it.
Are either of these lense good? Are Nikons versions of these lenses any better?
Are there any other lenses in my budget that you all would reccomend? I’m fine with buying used.
Thanks!

I’d suggest the Sigma 70-300mm APO lens.
It doesn’t have IS, but optically beats either of the Canon lenses hands-down. Be sure to get the APO version (about $219) and not the less-expensive non-APO version (about $129).
I’ve had that lens for several years now, used on 4 Canon DSLRs, and actually prefer it sometimes to my much more expensive Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L lens.

The 55-250 is a much better lens than the 75-300 and it has image stabilization. Cost is about $250.
The 75-300 is generally considered a dog. There is a reason the 70-300mm IS cost nearly three times as much.
    Canon EF 70-300mm IS $590.
