Saris are expensive. And instead of buying a sari and then taking the time to make a dress, why don’t you just BUY a dress? Or do you want an eastern style print? You can wear a fancy abayah. What is everyone else gonna be wearing? If it’s an American wedding, I wear formal, American clothes: dress pants, or a long skirt, formal blouse. The only other wedding I have been to are Paki ones, so of course I wear shalwar kameez whenever the opportunity presents my Arab friend says that she has a few shalwar kameez’s and she wears them to weddings even though everyone else doesn’t just cause she likes them. Anything formal should work. Just get something that has a lot of embroidery or beads if you want an Eastern style. But if you’re in the U.S. they are SOO expensive. You can borrow something from a sister if you want. Good luck!

You can actually sew something else out of a sari because it’s a big piece of fabric. My sister actually made shalwar kamiz out of a sari once… so the choice is yours. Yesterday I wore a sari to a wedding. But if you’re afraid that a sari will not be modest enough, that’s not true. There are dozens of ways you can wear a sari, and most of them cover your body completely, it just depends on how you drape it.
But ya it would work. I usually like to use the border work of a sari at the bottom of a skirt if i were to make a skirt, or use it as a decoration on sleeve area. It’s hard to describe, but if you go to a taylor who knows sari’s well they’ll know what to do if you ask for something specific.

most of the weddings i go to are not separated and even if they are, I do not change what I wear. I have abayas which are very formal and I wear those. As for you, actually if you have a JC Penney nearby I would check them out because last weekend I was there and I bought dresses for my daughters and they were really cheap and very nice, They had all of that kind of stuff on clearance. If you shop around you will find something nice and within budget.

I would wear a flashy abaya; like one of those saudia arabian ones. I personally prefer dark colors, so the flashy stuff with me below my over garment.
Whats your budget? I thought this abaya below was cute for a wedding.

Yes, you can make a shalwar kameez from saree material, why not? =) My mom’s done this with a few of her sarees. Just get your proper measurements and give the material to a tailor.

yes you can use saree for making a nice dress. buy a one with border, it would be nicer to have plane one with border so that you can use border on sleeves and neck etc. it looks decent i have done it many times.

I usually wear long cute dresses with long jackets that usually come with them, and nice hijab.

i have alot of sarees made into 2 piece cloth one is kebaya a malay traditional dress and a baju kurung or a pant suit it turn out nice i love it….
